BPA Free Baby Bottles – Milk and Tickles
Milk and Tickles is new Queensland company, who care for the well being of our babies and children, bringing BPA free Bottles to help our young children grow up free of BPA (Bisphenol A). Previously I have written about Unsafe Baby Bottles (link at end of post) and the effects that BPA has upon children growing up, the effects range the early onset of puberty in girls, Breast Cancer, Prostate Cancer, ADHD and Obesity.
Why do we need BPA
The purpose of the chemical BPA is to make the bottle clean, rigid and shatter proof.
For many years parents have managed to feed children from (BPA free) bottles without resorting to chemical ridden bottles containing BPA. These were glass bottles, yet for some reason, as parents; we have stopped believing in/ using glass bottles. Is there a reason behind the uptake of plastic bottles over glass bottles.
if anyone knows why… please leave a comment to enlighten me
I can only assume that it is for convenience, because it is easier to microwave a plastic bottle than to gently heat a glass bottle on the stove top. This practice is dangerous in itself; as the milk will heat unevenly and could cause burning due to the uneven heating of the milk.
Once again I am stumped as to why a parent would use a bottle containing BPA, surely as a parent if you knew there was the remotest possibility of any side effect you would steer clear of the chemicals
Milk and Tickles
Along come the Australian company Milk and Tickles , who have wanted to make sure that their children did not get exposed to BPA, and have set up the company Milk and Tickles to help bring a great product from Queensland to Victoria. The Company is well know in the organic world and is bringing the message to Victoria. From my short discussion with Dan Ward (CEO – Milk and Tickles), he is a man who is passionate and is working tirelessly to bring a great product to the market, Check out their website for further information…
Colour Changing Bottles
The Milk and Tickles Colour changing bottles are BPA free and are made of polypropylene plastic and does not contain any Bisphenol A (BPA). The colour Changing BPA free bottles contains Heat sensitive Pigments imported from the United Kingdom and reacts to termperatures above 35 degrees Celcius. It should be noted that if it is a very hot day then the bottle can change colour. In the FAQ it is indicated that prolonged exposure could reduce the life span of the colour changing pigment, My question to Milk and Tickles would be, what reduction in life span of the product if left on say the window sill whilst you are on vacation.. does this effectievly reduce the lifespan of the product to weeks.
Having said this It seems great.. i would be interested to know if there are plans for smaller bottles, and other BPA products (eg pacifiers and cups for toddlers).
Regarding the comment re the FCC in the USA consider BPA bottles safe, my only answer to this is that how many times have the health authorities stated something is safe only to be found out lated that it is not ………..eg thalidomide..

If PES is the natural BPA free type, why do BPA free baby bottles come in so many colours? And how safe is the added colours/ chemicals?

so true Chris, any chemical added intot he chain poses a threat to children, which is why i am a great advocate of natural glass bottles, they may take a little longer to warm up, but you know your baby is safe from ingesting any chemicals the manufacturers have added in
